Learning Objectives

At the end of this session, participants will be able to:

1. Demonstrate knowledge of approaches for implementing cultural and linguistic competencies into neuropsychological training.

2 Identify mechanisms for increasing advocacy efforts for cultural neuropsychology and inter-organizational efforts to compile and streamline advocacy efforts for cultural neuropsychology.

3. Identify major global causes of neuropsychological dysfunction.


About Dr. Thames

Dr. April Thames is an Associate Professor in the Department of Psychology and Director of the Social Neuroscience in Health Psychology (SNIHP) laboratory at the University of Southern California. Dr. Thames is the Principal Investigator of several National Institute of Health (NIH) grant-supported projects, including an NIH RO1 grant focused on racial disparities in cognitive aging among adults with and without HIV-infection.  She has developed a translational research program in social neuroscience that focuses on the impact of health and social determinants on neurological and neurobehavioral outcomes.  She is also a clinical neuropsychologist specializing in adult and older adult populations.
